Masters Golf Draws 42 Million Viewers

This weekend’s coverage of the 2009 Masters golf tournament on CBS reached a total of 42 million viewers for third- and final-round play, up 6% over last year and ranking as the Masters’ most watched weekend since 2001.
This weekend’s 42 million total viewers that tuned in for part or all of the telecasts Saturday and Sunday edged out last year’s 39.7 million viewers.
Sunday’s final round coverage drew 35.2 million total viewers for all or part of the telecast. Yesterday’s final, in which Angel Cabrera walked away with the Green Jacket after a two-hole playoff, was up 7% over last year’s 32.8 million viewers.
The final round Sunday scored a household rating 8.3 (down 3% over last year) and a 20 share, according to final Nielsen Media Research data. Viewership for the Masters coverage came out strong Sunday, considering the Easter holiday and the 15% drop of households using television compared with last year.
