Universal Sports and NBC Sports extended their relationship with the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) and its commercial partner, Dentsu.
The new long-term deal gives the networks broadcast rights to track and field events from the IAAF World Athletics Series through 2015. The agreement includes IAAF World Championships in Athletics for 2011, 2013 and 2015. The existing agreement calls for coverage of this year’s IAAF World Champions in Athletics in Berlin.
More than 130 hours of coverage will be featured on Universal Sports and NBC this year, with multiplatform coverage and live and same-day broadcasts to grow with the new deal.
“Our relationship with the IAAF is a critical component to our Olympic sports strategy, and this agreement gives us a terrific platform to further build the awareness of the best track and field athletes as we lead up to the 2012 London Olympic Games,” Gary Zenkel, president of NBC Olympics, said in a statement.
