‘Web Soup’ Becomes G4’s Latest ‘Talk Soup’ Spinoff

G4 is serving up its own brand of “The Soup.”
The network is readying “Web Soup,” a weekly half-hour compilation of the Internet’s best and worst viral videos. Chris Hardwick, Nerdist blogger and tech correspondent for “Attack of the Show,” has been tapped to host the new series, which will air Sundays at 9 p.m. starting June 7.
“Web Soup” will be the fourth incarnation of the “Soup” brand. In addition to the original-recipe edition hosted by Joel McHale on E!, Comcast Entertainment Productions has spun off “Sports Soup” for Versus and “The Dish” for Style.
Neal Tiles, president of G4, said “Web Soup” fits well with the network’s brand.
“G4 viewers are Web-obsessed, and this show brings the Internet to television in a way that’s edgy and fun,” Mr. Tiles said. “Not only can Chris Hardwick dole out hilarious off-the-cuff commentary, he also possesses a deep knowledge of digital culture, which makes him the ideal host for ‘Web Soup.’”
Like other “Soup” series, “Web Soup” will feature several themed segments in each episode. Among the themes already in the works: “The Daily Upload,” “This Week in FAIL” and “Things You Can’t Un-See.”
“Web Soup” will be executive produced by Edward Boyd, K.P. Anderson, Boyd Vico and Brad Stevens. The quartet developed the concept with Jay James, senior VP of development for Comcast Entertainment Productions, and Laura Civiello, VP of development for G4.
