The United States House of Representatives voted today to approve a measure that would control the volume level of commercials, the Associated Press reports.

According to the article, the bill, "is aimed at stopping TV ads from playing noticeably louder than programs." It was introduced by Rep. Anna Eshoo, D-Calif.

An identical measure has been introduced in the Senate.

Years ago, Barbra Steisand reportedly called one of the broadcast networks to complain about the volume of commercials that accompanied the airing of one of her films.
