Univision Announces Changes to Univision Networks’ Management Team

Univision Communications, Inc., the leading media company serving Hispanic America, today announced a reorganization of the Univision Networks team, under which Alberto Ciurana, president of Programming and Content; Isaac Lee, president of News; and Juan Carlos Rodriquez, president of Univision Deportes will report directly to Randy Falco, president and chief executive officer of Univision Communications, Inc.

“Alberto, Isaac and Juan Carlos are three extraordinarily talented executives with keen insights and deep knowledge of our business, our audiences and what makes our Networks so successful,” said Falco. “They are largely responsible for the recent success and tremendous momentum of our Network business. This new management structure provides us with an opportunity to be even more nimble going forward and I look forward to working with the entire Network team and supporting their continued success.”

Cesar Conde, former president of Univision Networks, announced he is resigning to pursue opportunities in English-language media.

“We are appreciative of Cesar’s contributions to Univision over the last decade,” added Falco.

Biographies

Alberto Ciurana, President of Programming and Content, Univision Networks

Alberto Ciurana is president of Programming and Content for Univision Networks, the nation’s leading media Company serving Hispanic America. He oversees entertainment programming for Univision’s broadcast and entertainment cable networks. Since joining the Company last September, he has helped grow ratings across time periods, including double digit growth for Univision’s morning show “Despierta America” and entertainment show “El Gordo y La Flaca” and further increased the synergies between Univision and Televisa. Prior to joining Univision, Mr. Ciurana was head of programming at Televisa, leading their networks to record-setting ratings. During his more than three decades at Televisa, he won numerous awards and recognitions for his leadership in Spanish-language media. Prior to this role, he oversaw international operations at Televisa, helping expand the company’s brand and reach around the world, and was based in London with responsibility for Eurovisa. Early in his career, Mr. Ciurana worked at Univision Network, helping establish the Company’s national footprint. He began his career in television working as a producer for the weekly variety show “Siempre en Domingo.”

Isaac Lee, President, Univision News

Isaac Lee is president of News for Univision Communications Inc. and responsible for leading News across the enterprise, which includes strategic and editorial oversight of programming and production across the Univision Networks, Univision Radio, Univision Television Group and the Company’s Digital platforms. During his tenure, Univision News has been recognized for its quality journalism and commitment to informing its audience, winning Peabody, IRE and National Headliner Awards for its investigative reporting, as well as a Cronkite Award for Excellence in Political Journalism among other prestigious journalism, documentary and investigative awards. Results have also been reflected in continued audience growth. In 2013 all of Univision’s news properties are reporting impressive season-to-date audience growth among the key demographics. Under his stewardship, Univision News established a landmark joint venture with ABC News to launch Fusion, a 24-hour English-language news network aimed at the growing Latino demographic with the idea of bringing together diverse cultures and giving Latinos a voice in the American conversation. Fusion is scheduled to launch October 28, 2013. Mr. Lee has been leading journalistic teams for nearly 15 years at prominent publications serving Spanish-speaking audiences in the U.S. and Latin America. He most recently founded and served as chairman and editor-in-chief of influential magazine PODER. He serves as a member of the Journalism Board of ProPublica and the International Advisory Board of the Committee to Protect Journalists.

Juan Carlos Rodriguez, President of Univision Deportes

Juan Carlos Rodriguez is the president of Univision Deportes. Mr. Rodriguez leads Univision’s sports division across all platforms. Regarded as one of the top sports executives in the Americas, Mr. Rodriguez has an accomplished career in the industry. He joined Univision Deportes from Televisa Deportes Network (TDN) where he held the post of CEO and grew the brand to become Mexico’s sports content brand of choice. While at Televisa, he spearheaded the launch of TDN and its sister properties TDN HD, TDN2.0, TDN Centro America and TDW, the No. 1 Mexican sports radio brand in Mexico. In addition, he successfully negotiated and acquired television and radio rights with FIFA, NFL, MLB, NBA, UEFA, RAI, CANAL PLUS, ISO and more than 10,000 hours of sports programming with worldwide vendors. Prior to Televisa Deportes Network, Mr. Rodriguez was co-founder and CEO of Grupo Estadio. Under his leadership, Grupo Estadio became the leading partner for DIRECTV to produce and distribute the 2002 FIFA World Cup. Grupo Estadio then expanded to pay television in 2005 when it launched Estadio TV. A precursor to today’s TDN, Grupo Estadio was later acquired by Televisa. Prior to that role, he was a senior executive at Calzado Tecnico, an Adidas manufacturer in Mexico. Mr. Rodriguez was recognized as CableFax’s Most Influential Minorities in Cable in 2012. He is a graduate of the Advanced Management Program at IPADE Business School and holds a bachelor’s degree from Universidad Iberoamericana. He is also founder of Con Pelotas, A.C., anon-profit organization who gives away soccer balls to children in southern Mexico.
