Marc Graboff Named President, Global Business and Legal Affairs, Production Management and Studios for Discovery Communications

Discovery Communications today announced that longtime media industry executive Marc Graboff will join the company in April 2015 as President, Global Business & Legal Affairs, Production Management and Studios. He will be based at Discovery’s Los Angeles headquarters. Graboff will report to Bruce Campbell, Chief Development and Digital Media Officer and General Counsel.

In his new role, Graboff will oversee Discovery’s overall business affairs and production management strategies, with day-to-day oversight of matters relating to the acquisition, development and production of programming for all of Discovery’s networks and digital platforms globally. His responsibilities will include management of the company’s global Business & Legal Affairs and Production Management groups, the business and creative talent of Discovery Studios and the oversight of the company’s production assets, including betty and Raw, as well as All3Media, operated in joint venture with Liberty Global.

In recognition of the increasing investment in and focus on the company’s growing studios business, Lee Bartlett, previously Executive Vice President, Global Production Management, Business & Legal Affairs, has been promoted to the role of President of the Studios Group. Reporting to Graboff, Bartlett will serve both a creative and management role leading Discovery Studios, and a day-to-day management role across Consumer Products, Program Sales, Private Networks, Footage Sales and Discovery Music Source. Bartlett also will have day-to-day management of betty and Raw and will serve as Discovery’s primary liaison for All3Media, as well as Chairman of the Board of All3Media for Discovery’s current term.

Graboff brings to Discovery an impressive career of accomplishments and expertise across the media and entertainment industry. He most recently served since January 2012 as President of CORE Media Group where he oversaw all strategic and day-to-day operations for the global music management and production company. Prior to CORE, Graboff spent 15 years in leadership positions with NBC Universal, most recently as President, West Coast Business Operations for NBC Universal Television Entertainment, and prior to that, in senior business affairs executive roles for CBS. During his career, Graboff is credited with leading such landmark television deals as “American Idol” while at CORE; “Friends” and “The Voice” for NBC; and “Survivor” and “CSI” for CBS, to name just a few.

More About Marc Graboff

Marc Graboff was named President of CORE Media Group in January 2012. Prior to joining CORE, Graboff served as President, West Coast Business Operations, for NBC Universal Television Entertainment, a position to which he was appointed in 2010. He was responsible for all business affairs, operations and production activities at NBC Entertainment and Universal Television. He was previously Chairman, NBC Entertainment and Universal Media Studios. Prior to that, he served as Co-Chairman, NBC Entertainment and Universal Media Studios from 2007 to 2009.

From 2006 to 2007, Graboff was President, NBC Universal Television, West Coast. In that role, he had oversight of NBC Entertainment, the NBC Universal Television Studio, the NBC Agency, and NBC Universal Domestic Television Distribution. He also was the chief business affairs executive for these groups, as well as NBCU’s entertainment cable networks: USA Network, Sci Fi Channel and Bravo.

Prior to his appointment as president, Graboff had served as Executive Vice President, NBC Universal Television Group, since 2004. He was named Executive Vice President, NBC West Coast, in 2000, where he oversaw business affairs activities related to all of NBC’s Burbank-based divisions, including NBC Entertainment, NBC Studios and NBC Enterprises. Graboff joined NBC after serving as Senior Vice President, CBS Entertainment, since 1997. While at CBS, Graboff oversaw business affairs for both the CBS Television Network and CBS Productions.

Before joining CBS, Graboff was a partner at the Los Angeles law firm of Troop, Meisinger, Steuber and Pasich and, prior to that, he was a founding partner of the firm of Silverberg, Katz, Thompson and Braun. He was recently named Treasurer of the Television Academy Foundation’s Board of Directors.

Graboff graduated from UCLA in 1977 with a bachelor’s degree in communications studies and graduated magna cum laude from Loyola Law School in 1983. He resides in Pacific Palisades, Calif., with his wife, Debi, a family lawyer. They have three children, Jessica, Nicole and Bradley.
