Press release from Discovery Communications, March 3, 2015:

Discovery Communications today announced that longtime media industry executive Marc Graboff will join the company in April 2015 as President, Global Business & Legal Affairs, Production Management and Studios. He will be based at Discovery’s Los Angeles headquarters. Graboff will report to Bruce Campbell, Chief Development and Digital Media Officer and General Counsel.

“One of Discovery’s great advantages is our long-term commitment to investing in world-class content and IP across all screens, and today we’ve added another key strategic advantage by having Marc Graboff join our leadership team,” said David Zaslav, President and CEO, Discovery Communications. “In addition to being one of the most fantastic executives and dealmakers in media, Marc is a universally admired and respected person… his business acumen and expertise matched only by the trust and relationships he has built across the industry. Bruce and I look forward to Marc’s leadership to help grow our marketshare by accelerating our current production engines, acquiring more IP across new genres and formats, and bringing more of the world’s top production partners to Discovery.”

In his new role, Graboff will oversee Discovery’s overall business affairs and production management strategies, with day-to-day oversight of matters relating to the acquisition, development and production of programming for all of Discovery’s networks and digital platforms globally. His responsibilities will include management of the company’s global Business & Legal Affairs and Production Management groups, the business and creative talent of Discovery Studios and the oversight of the company’s production assets, including betty and Raw, as well as All3Media, operated in joint venture with Liberty Global.

In recognition of the increasing investment in and focus on the company’s growing studios business, Lee Bartlett, previously Executive Vice President, Global Production Management, Business & Legal Affairs, has been promoted to the role of President of the Studios Group. Reporting to Graboff, Bartlett will serve both a creative and management role leading Discovery Studios, and a day-to-day management role across Consumer Products, Program Sales, Private Networks, Footage Sales and Discovery Music Source. Bartlett also will have day-to-day management of betty and Raw and will serve as Discovery’s primary liaison for All3Media, as well as Chairman of the Board of All3Media for Discovery’s current term.

“Content production and acquisition are top areas of focus for Discovery, and in Marc we’ve added one of the industry’s most well-respected dealmakers and business strategists to guide our next phase of growth,” said Campbell. “Our acquisitions of betty, Raw and All3Media, along with the increased investment behind Discovery Studios, present a tremendous growth opportunity as viewers’ appetites and our networks’ needs for more engaging original content increase globally. I look forward to Marc and Lee’s leadership across this critical part of our business.”

Graboff brings to Discovery an impressive career of accomplishments and expertise across the media and entertainment industry. He most recently served since January 2012 as President of CORE Media Group where he oversaw all strategic and day-to-day operations for the global music management and production company. Prior to CORE, Graboff spent 15 years in leadership positions with NBC Universal, most recently as President, West Coast Business Operations for NBC Universal Television Entertainment, and prior to that, in senior business affairs executive roles for CBS. During his career, Graboff is credited with leading such landmark television deals as “American Idol” while at CORE; “Friends” and “The Voice” for NBC; and “Survivor” and “CSI” for CBS, to name just a few.

“Discovery Communications is on the leading edge of shaping the content strategies for an increasingly global television industry,” said Graboff. “I am thrilled to join David, Bruce and the rest of Discovery’s first-class management team to help maintain and grow Discovery’s position as the world’s number one pay-TV programmer.”

Over the past several years, Discovery Communications has broadened its internal production expertise, creating content for the company’s worldwide networks and has acquired some of the world’s foremost independent production companies including top UK lifestyle content producers, betty; Raw, creators of Discovery’s #1 hit series, GOLD RUSH; and All3Media, in a joint venture with Liberty Global. Established in 2007, Discovery Studios is the full-service production studio within Discovery Communications that creates, develops and produces high-quality, innovative original series, specials and short-form content across multiple genres.
