CBS News Maintains Leadership Position as the Only Network News Division With Every Major Broadcast Drawing More Viewers on Television Year-to-Date Than a Year Ago

CBS News maintained its leadership position as the only network news division where every major broadcast is drawing more viewers on a television year-to-date basis compared to last year, according to Nielsen most current ratings.

The division’s unwavering commitment to original reporting around the country and around the globe has attracted new viewers to CBS News broadcasts, including the CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY (up +3% in viewers); 60 MINUTES (up +2%); FACE THE NATION (up +5%); CBS THIS MORNING (up + 10%); CBS SUNDAY MORNING WITH CHARLES OSGOOD (up +1%); 48 HOURS (up +9%) and CBS THIS MORNING: SATURDAY (up +9%).

Last week’s broadcasts featured Scott Pelley’s interview with Secretary of State John Kerry; Lee Cowan’s report on efforts to get part of a Navajo reservation running water; Mireya Villarreal’s ongoing coverage of the sludge disaster in Durango, Colo.; John Dickerson’s interviews with presidential candidates Ohio Gov. John Kasich, South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham and former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley; Erin Moriarty’s investigation into the 2013 murder of an Albuquerque couple; and Jeff Pegues investigation into the sale of counterfeit tourniquets to the military and first responders.

Here’s a recap of how CBS News broadcasts performed last week, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings:

The CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY delivered 6.38 million viewers (up +2% from 6.26m) and a 1.2/06 with adults 25-54 for the week ending August 14. The CBS broadcast added +120,000 viewers compared to the same week last year. Television year-to-date, the CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY is up +3% in viewers (7.03m from 6.81m) and even in adults 25-54 (1.4/06) compared to last year.

60 MINUTES was CBS’s top program for the week. 60 MINUTES (R) (7:31-8:32 PM) on August 16 was #1 with adults 25-54 (2.1/07) and viewers (9.55m). Compared to the same night last year, 60 MINUTES was up +40% in adults 25-54 and +21% in viewers. Television year-to-date 60 MINUTES is delivering 11.1 million viewers (up +2% from 10.9m) and a 2.3/07 with adults 25-54 compared to last year.

FACE THE NATION delivered 2.84 million viewers and a 0.7/04 with adults 25-54 (up +17% from 0.6/03) on August 16. Television year-to-date, FACE THE NATION is delivering 3.32 million viewers (up +5% from 3.15m) and a 0.7/04 with adults 25-54 compared to last year.

CBS THIS MORNING was the only network morning broadcast to post year-to-year percentage gains among adults 25-54 (up +14%, 0.8/07 from 0.7/06) and viewers (up +10%, 3.16m from 2.86m), for the week ending August 14. CBS THIS MORNING added +300,000 viewers year-over-year, closing the viewership gap with ABC by 570,000 viewers and with NBC by 510,000 viewers. Television year-to-date, CBS THIS MORNING is delivering 3.35 million viewers (up +10% from 3.05m) and a 0.8/07 with adults 25-54 compared to last year.

CBS SUNDAY MORNING WITH CHARLES OSGOOD was the #1 Sunday morning news program with adults 25-54 and viewers on August 16. The broadcast delivered 5.16 million viewers and a 1.1/07 with viewers. Television year-to-date, CBS SUNDAY MORNING is delivering 5.89 million viewers (up +1% from 5.83m) and a 1.3/07 in adults 25-54 compared to last year.

48 HOURS (R) (10:33-11:33 PM) delivered 4.70 million viewers and a 1.1/04 in adults 25-54 on August 15. In the 10:30-11:00 PM time slot, 48 HOURS was first with adults 25-54 and viewers. 48 HOURS was the top primetime program of the night in both viewers and adults 25-54. Television year-to-date, 48 HOURS is delivering 5.54 million viewers (up +9% from 5.07m) and a 1.4/04 with adults 25-54 compared to last year.

CBS THIS MORNING: SATURDAY delivered 1.85 million viewers and a 0.5/04 with adults 25-54 on August 15. Television year-to-date, CBS THIS MORNING: SATURDAY is delivering 2.08 million viewers (up +9% from 1.91m) and a 0.5/04 in adults 25-54.
