Weijia Jiang has been named a CBS News correspondent covering the White House, it was announced today by Christopher Isham, CBS News Vice President and Washington Bureau Chief. Jiang will be reporting daily from the White House for all CBS broadcasts and platforms, including CBS THIS MORNING, CBS EVENING NEWS WITH JEFF GLOR and CBSN, the 24/7 streaming news service.

Jiang joined CBS News in 2015 as a correspondent for Newspath, the Network’s 24-hour television newsgathering service for CBS stations and broadcasters around the world. Since then, she has reported extensively on both the Obama and Trump administrations, the 2016 Presidential campaign and election, the funeral of former First Lady Barbara Bush; and the Congressional baseball shooting that wounded House Majority Whip Steve Scalise. She has also covered a number of national stories such as Hurricane Harvey, the catastrophic Cat. 4 hurricane that hit Texas last summer.

Recently, Jiang’s coverage of the Trump White House has been featured across all CBS broadcasts and the CBS affiliate network via Newspath. Jiang traveled with President Trump to Quebec City, Canada, to cover the G-7 summit and participated in a rare impromptu press gaggle with President Trump on the North Lawn of the White House last month. She also provided Network-wide coverage of the Trump administration’s “zero tolerance” immigration policy and the Supreme Court vacancy.

“Over the past several months, Weijia Jiang has consistently shown that she has what it takes to cover this White House–she asks the right questions, she provides context and depth, and she is fast on her feet,” said Isham. “We are thrilled that she is joining our White House team.”

“I am honored and excited to fill this role for CBS News,” said Jiang. “It comes with a great responsibility that I am reminded of daily, as news out of Washington continues to break at an exceptional pace. Although we cover the White House from here, the stories impact the lives of every single American. Our team works tirelessly to deliver the latest and most accurate information and I am proud to work alongside such a dedicated group of journalists.”

Before coming to CBS News, Jiang was a general assignment reporter and fill-in anchor at WCBS-TV in New York (2012-2015) where she covered Superstorm Sandy; the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.; and the Boston Marathon bombings. Her work there also earned several industry awards. In 2013, she was part of the team that won a regional Emmy award for coverage of Superstorm Sandy.

Previously, Jiang worked at WJZ-TV in Baltimore (2008-2012) and WBOC-TV in Salisbury, Md. (2006-2008) where she was honored with an Edward R. Murrow award and an Associated Press award for feature reporting. When she was a graduate school candidate in 2006, she worked for WBRE-TV in Scranton, Penn., as a Washington, D.C.-based reporter. She began her career at the age of 13 as a student reporter and anchor for ChannelOne News in Los Angeles.

Jiang graduated from The College of William and Mary in 2005 with a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and from Syracuse University in 2006 with a master’s degree in broadcast journalism. In 2012, she was inducted into the prestigious Professional Gallery at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. She was born in Xiamen, China, and raised in West Virginia, where she immigrated with her parents when she was two years old.
