MSNBC Is the #1 Most-Watched Network Across All Cable in Weekday Prime for Week of Aug. 20

For the week of August 20, MSNBC weekday prime (M-F 8-11pm) was the #1 most-watched network across all cable television for the 1st time since the week of August 14, 2017, according to Nielsen. MSNBC weekday prime topped #2 FOX News and #4 CNN among total viewers. MSNBC weekday prime also ranked #4 in A25-54 for cable TV, beating #5 FOX News and #6 CNN. For all of cable news, MSNBC weekday prime was #1 in both total viewers and A25-54 for the 1st time since the week of August 14, 2017.

MSNBC dayside (M-F 9am-5pm) dominated CNN in total viewers with its most-watched week since the week of March 24, 2003. MSNBC dayside averaged 1.25 million total viewers (vs. CNN’s 890,000).

MSNBC’s “The Rachel Maddow Show” was the #1 most-watched show across all cable TV for the week. In A25-54, “Maddow” averaged 677,000 viewers (vs. FOX News’ 565,000 and CNN’s 501,000). In total viewers, “Maddow” averaged 3.32 million viewers (vs. FOX News’ 2.99 million and CNN’s 1.46 million).

“The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell” at 10pm was #1 in A25-54 and total viewers, beating both FOX News and CNN. In A25-54, “The Last Word” averaged 482,000 viewers (vs. FOX News’ 432,000 and CNN’s 474,000). In total viewers, “The Last Word” averaged 2.61 million viewers (vs. FOX News’ 2.27 million and CNN’s 1.36 million).

“The 11th Hour with Brian Williams” was the #1 cable news show at 11pm in both A25-54 and in total viewers. In A25-54, “The 11th Hour” averaged 384,000 viewers (vs. FOX News’ 289,000 and CNN’s 372,000). In total viewers, “The 11th Hour” averaged 2.07 million viewers (vs. FOX News’ 1.38 million and CNN’s 1.06 million) – the program’s most-watched week ever, and MSNBC’s best-rated regularly scheduled program at 11pm in the history of the network.

“MSNBC Live with Ali Velshi” at 3pm and “Deadline: White House” at 4pm were each #1 in total viewers during their respective hours. “MSNBC Live with Ali Velshi” averaged 1.23 million total viewers (vs. FOX News’ 1.21 million and CNN’s 967,000) while “Deadline: White House” averaged 1.72 million total viewers (vs. FOX News’ 1.32 million and CNN’s 1.12 million). For “Deadline,” this was the show’s most-watched week on record.

“Morning Joe” from 6-9am smashed total viewer records with its most-watched week ever. “Morning Joe” averaged 1.27 million viewers (vs. CNN’s 599,000).

“The Beat with Ari Melber” at 6pm achieved record total viewership for the week. “The Beat” averaged 1.72 million viewers (vs. CNN’s 1.12 million).
