Fox says it is adding a fourth judge to “American Idol” next year.
Kara DioGuardi, a Grammy-nominated songwriter, will join Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul on the talent search. The show’s ratings slipped last season.
“We are turning the heat up on ‘Idol’ this year and are thrilled to welcome Kara to the judges’ table,” said creator and executive producer Simon Fuller. “She is a smart, sassy lady, and one of America’s most successful songwriters. We know she will bring a new level of energy and excitement to the show.”
The eigth season of “Idol” is set to launch in January.

  1. Trying to shake things up in season 8? Eh?
I’m not sure if people will take to this. The episodes are long enough with 3 judges, do we really need to hear another “expert’s” opinion?

  2. I am not sure how adding another talking head into the mix will help. Thought there might be a shakeup in the judges and someone might be replaced. It did not work when they tried four a few times before.

  3. Canadian Idol has four(4) judges and it works well. Each has just less time to speak than is the case with American Idol. That will limit the rambling we are getting from one of the judges. It may also stimulate the other two to say something original for a change.
