At this year’s upfronts, MTV Entertainment will focus on male audiences, original programming and multiplatform content, according to JackMyers Media Business Report. Nielsen data indicated that the Viacom channels had a greater reach among young males in 2007 than all of the ESPN channels combined, thanks in part to bumps from holdings Comedy Central, TVLand and Spike on top of its usual demographic stronghold MTV channels. Erik Flanagan, executive VP of digital at MTV, detailed plans to make extensive archives of classic programming from all channels available online; he also mentioned a possible arrangement with Hulu.com, the TV-on-the-Web site launched last week by News Corp. and NBC Universal.
