Producers of Baltimore-based drama “The Wire,” which ended its five-year run on HBO yesterday, criticized U.S. drug-enforcement policy as “a venal war on our underclass” in a Time magazine editorial. Given the opportunity to serve on a drug-offense trial, the producers would vote to acquit, regardless of evidence, citing Baltimore statistics showing that more drug enforcement have caused arrest rates for murder to drop, they said.
