Cablevision Likely to Bid on Newsday

The Dolan family’s Cablevision is likely to make a bid for Sam Zell’s Long Island newspaper Newsday that will exceed the $580 million offers from both Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp. and Mortimer Zuckerman, Newsday reports, citing sources it didn’t identify. Cablevision’s offer may boost the price of the newspaper, acquired when Mr. Zell bought Tribune Co., to more than $600 million, the newspaper says. Newsday covers New York’s Long Island, where most of Cablevision’s subscribers live.
