CBS and NBC Fight to Control Weather

In a second round of bidding due to close May 8, CBS Corp. and GE’s NBC Universal are expected to make a play for the Weather Channel, reports Reuters. The channel has been put up for sale by privately held Landmark Communications, which had originally sought $5 billion for the cable channel and Web site, according to sources. The 24/7 Weather Channel is attractive to media companies expanding into cable because of its immediacy and programming on hot topics such as the environment.
