Production of movies, TV shows and commercials in Los Angeles during the first quarter were down 23% because of the Writers Guild of America strike, and continued below normal even after the work stoppage ended, the Hollywood Reporter says. The strike ran from early November to mid-February, but FilmLA says permits to film were below normal levels at the end of March.

I hope the SAG and AFTRA unions realize that in light of the above, a strike would be professional suicide for their members and the death knell of Hollywood. They need to get serious about these talks. If the industry is shut down, there won’t BE any residuals from new media, becausse there will be nothing to have residuals from. It’s that simple.
