Executives at Liberty Media, which operates Starz and Encore, said the planned Viacom-MGM-Lionsgate premium channel does not pose a threat, Media Daily News reports. CEO Greg Maffei pointed to the proposed channel’s lack of a distribution deal, expensive subscriber fees and no consumer demand as reasons it may struggle, the Web site says. Liberty Media’s 48% control of DirecTV, a possible distributor, also may hinder the channel’s future, the Web site notes.
