TV Guide Guarantees Ratings for NBC

TV Guide, in a multimillion-dollar agreement with NBC Universal, guaranteed that its promotions of the network’s shows would increase ratings, TelevisionWeek reports. The agreement included shows such as “Lipstick Jungle” and “American Gladiators,” whose ratings rose during the weeks they were promoted on the TV Guide Network, the magazine says.

  1. Well, that just confirms what I’ve been thinking for a long time, that TV Guide is definitely not an independent, objective, informative source for the best TV has to offer. Instead it is a paid promotional outlet and if you happen to be on a smaller network without the funds to pay off the magazine then forget getting equal treatment.
I would hope that a magazine that pretends to present the best in entertainment would be above such blatent commercialisation of its editorial aspects. After all isn’t that what the paid ads in the magazine are for?
No wonder my favorite show and the best show that no one has heard of is rarely mentioned in the magazine or online. If you are wondering, Supernatural is the best show on TV that no one has heard of. Check it out, you sure won’t be seeing much in TV Guide on it, but then this article proves why that is.
