Media agency buying unit Magna Global USA found that only 25% percent of U.S. TV homes have DVRs, but those that do have the devices “use them with a vengeance,” MediaWeek reports. Time-shifted viewing on DVRs makes up 9% of the big five network’s TV ratings and 15% of viewing by adults 18-49, impacting ratings twice as much as when VCRs were in 90% of homes, the newspaper says. Serialized dramas and sci-fi/action programs had the highest number of DVR playbacks, the newspaper notes.
