CNN’s “Black in America” recalls many of the best documentaries by engaging the heart as well as the brain, says Washington Post television critic Tom Shales. The series looks at the state of race relations in the U.S. as an African-American campaigns to become the nation’s leader. “The words and the pictures of these four remarkable hours complement and supplement each other,” Mr. Shales says. “There’s little if any waste; the report has been edited to a tight, bright pace that makes it seem considerably shorter than it is.”
