Richard Roeper, co-host of the long-running syndicated movie-review series “At the Movies With Ebert & Roeper,” said in a statement he was unable to reach an agreement with Disney-ABC Domestic Television on a new contract and will be leaving the show next month, the Chicago Tribune reports. Roeper began co-hosting the show in 2000 after the death of Gene Siskel in 2000. The Tribune says sources say Disney is contemplating turning “At the Movies” into a more Hollywood-oriented show such as “Entertainment Tonight.”

  1. The last sentence is very interesting.

  2. The last sentence is very interesting.

  3. Like we need another vapid publicity whoring vehicle like “Entertainment Tonight.”

  4. Not another “Entertainment Tonight”. We already have “TMZ” and “Access”. We don’t need another one.

  5. That’s great news! Roeper’s inane reviews never maintained the level of sophistication and debate from the days of ‘Siskel & Ebert.’ And yet Richard Roeper always acted like his opinions were fascinating . . .
Too bad to be loosing the interesting the film debate forum but does seem like content better suited for cable these days.

  6. This show (in all the incarnations it has gone through) has been the only reliable weekly source on TV for a half-hour’s worth of intelligent and entertaining film reviews. C’mon Disney, pay Richard what he’s worth! Though we miss Roger Ebert and wish him well, Richard Roeper has been doing just fine at the helm, and if he leaves the show, I hope he emerges with a similar one somewhere else with a partner, because I will dearly miss him and the good-natured bantering that makes this show stand out. We don’t need another ET, we need more Richard & Co.
