Studios Blast SAG Counter Offer

Jul 11, 2008  •  Post A Comment

The studios blasted a counter-offer from the Screen Actors Guild, keeping the possibility of a strike on the table, TelevisionWeek reports. SAG had rejected what the studios called their “last, best and final” offer, leaving the two sides far apart. The studios complained that SAG was trying to get a better deal than the Writers Guild of American, Directors Guild of America and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists had bargained for. Meanwhile SAG president Alan Rosenberg said in a radio interview this week that the guild had been “screwed” by AFTRA’s deal, approved by members earlier this week, TVWeek says.

  1. Perhaps Mr. Rosenberg should return to acting where he reads a script when he talks.
The mentality being exhibited from SAG’s front office is retro to a much different time in the business. WGA, DGA and AFTRA did OK considering the climate of today.
The town needs to stay working, or the industry will truly wither-on-the-vine.

  2. I agree 100% with Peter. What is SAG thinking about?
In my opinion, the two sides should agree to talk indefinitely until an agreement is reached. The option of a strike (or a lockout) needs to be taken off the table completely, and it needs to be taken off the table today.
