To DIY Or Watch Someone Else

Jul 21, 2008  •  Post A Comment

Watching a full day’s worth of programming on the DIY Network left the New York Times wondering whether all of the projects shown could be completed by an average viewer. After seeing a water booster tank being installed on “Ed the Plumber,” for example, the writer says “it quickly became apparent that the only way to make this happen was to call Ed and have him come over. Once a blowtorch enters the picture, I think it’s safe to say that most viewers will simply step back.” On the other hand, the real pleasure of how-to television may be watching somebody else do a lot of work, the paper says.
