New York’s Public Service Commission has approved Verizon’s plan to roll out its FiOS TV and high-speed Internet service in all five boroughs of New York City, the New York Post reports. Verizon will begin by offering service to Staten Island by the end of the year, then adding service throughout other parts of the city, hoping to bring New York an expected 400 channels by 2014. Verizon’s addition will compete with Time Warner Cable’s and Cablevision’s services.

This is GREAT news, although my guess is I will have to wait until 2012 for them to get it into my nabe (which is dumb because I’m less than a mile from one of Verizon’s major hubs the the Columbia U area).
Don’t be too anxious. I am a subscriber and am less than enamoured. The 15/2 Internet service I’m paying for is no faster than the 6 MB I got from Time Warner, the picture is only marginally better, and the cost is about twice as much, plus they charge for EVERYTHING. I hope you have better luck than me. I’m about to cancel.
Clay: Get a faster computer.
My 20/5 service screams along better than the less than 1 meg speed optimum online connection I had and the picture is noticeably clearer and brighter even to someone like me who has no eye for these things.
