Weather.com’s ‘Secret Weapon’ Helps NBCU

NBC Universal’s acquisition of The Weather Channel could provide the company with a “secret weapon” in the form of the ZIP codes that weather.com collects from users, Online Media Daily reports. Gartner media analyst Andrew Frank argues that the ZIP codes are of “significant value to marketers, which keeps weather.com’s online ad rates high,” the Web site says. NBCU could use weather.com to boost the value of ads on affiliated Internet properties, the Web site notes.
