Dish, DirecTV Talking Merger?

The Wall Street Journal reported a possible merger between rival satellite television providers DirecTV, the largest in the country, and No. 2 Dish Network, according to TVPredictions.com. A formal proposal has not been entered, but the paper reports “general discussions” in regards to another merger attempt, following an unsuccessful bid in 2002. However, with the recently approved merger of satellite radio providers Sirius and XM, Dish CEO Charlie Ergen appears to believe federal regulators may be more receptive to a merger now, the Journal said.
