NBC will run an ad from oil magnate T. Boone Pickens on its flagship network after initially objecting to it because the broadcaster said the spot didn’t support its claim that the U.S. wasn’t attempting to cut back on oil consumption, the Hollywood Reporter says. NBC, which approved the ad for CNBC and MSNBC but said the ad was too controversial for the main broadcast channel, gave in after receiving a letter from Pickens’ attorney saying it was “selectively applying the First Amendment,” the newspaper reports.
