Media Companies Eyeing Airport Terminals

In a lackluster advertising market, media companies are looking to airport terminals for new revenue streams, says the Associated Press. Television and print organizations including USA Today, CNBC, Fox News, CNN, Sports Illustrated and the New York Times have opened stores in airports across the country as a way of promoting their brands. Air travelers tend to skew older and wealthier, the article says. Most of these stores are run-of-the-mill airport gift shops, but with emphasis on their own brands. USA Today and Fox News Channel allow their retail partners to decide what the stores carry. The Sports Illustrated store, however, will offer sports accessories and two magazine titles: SI and Golf.
