Senators Pressure FCC’s Martin for DTV Concentration

Key senators, including Senate Commerce Committee Chairman Sen. Daniel Inouye, D-Hawaii, are pressuring FCC Chairman Kevin Martin to abandon his mission to dismantle cable operators’ bundling packages and instead concentrate on the upcoming national digital television transition in February, Multichannel News reports. In a letter to the Republican chair, co-signed by Sen. Ted Stevens, R-Alaska, and Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, R-Texas, Sen. Inouye wrote, “Pursuing contentious policy initiatives, such as the unbundling of wholesale subscription television channels, would divert attention of the bureau at this critical time.”
