The Sundance Channel is launching a video-on-demand service, Sundance Selects, featuring independent films the haven’t been released in theaters selected by the channel’s programmers, the Los Angeles Times reports. The new service, scheduled to launch Jan. 1, will aim to “democratize and emancipate independent film,” said Rainbow Media president and CEO Joshua Sapan. About 50 new films will be introduced during the year with about a third falling in the non-fiction category, the newspaper says.
