HBO Goes to Canada, Sort Of

Oct 30, 2008  •  Post A Comment

Rogers Communications and Bell Canada are among Canadian cable operators that today started carrying Movie Central and the Movie Network, which are licensees of HBO shows, the Hollywood Reporter says. Shows from HBO, which is barred from authorized carriage in Canada, were also shown by Sasktel and Shaw Communications, the newspaper reports.

  1. Who the hell wrote this article? Canada has had these movie channels (now known as Movie Central and The Movie Network) since 1983. What the article meant to say was that HBO Canada launched, which is a multiplex channel (on Movie Central or The Movie Network packages) devoted to HBO content.

  2. This story, or whatever it is, makes no sense, and should read that HBO Canada is launching today after years of government interference that kept it from coming to Canada, although almost all HBO original programming has been available on Movie Central and The Movie Network. The current slate of HBO original programming will continue to air on these channels and on the new HBO Canada. When they end their run, the next wave of HBO programs will air exclusively on HBO Canada, and will no longer be seen on TMN and MC. Get your facts straight!

  3. Easy, guys! It’s just the Hollywood Reporter. It’s not like it’s a serious source of…well, anything, really. 😉
