NBC says it will close up shop on its digital channel Weather Plus by the end of the year, TelevisionWeek reports. Weather Plus, a 24/7 weather service the network owned with its affiliates, appears on 10 NBC owned stations and 80 affiliates. NBC News President Steve Capus said the decision is independent of NBC Universal’s recent purchase of the Weather Channel, and the move would have occurred even without that acquisition. “It has not been a profitable business,” Capus said. “This was a business that was challenged. We were going to have to face that at some point.”
