News Web Sites Looking Past Election

With the election year bringing in the most traffic ever for news and political Web sites such as MSNBC.com, CNN.com, ABCNews.com and TheHuffingtonPost.com, MediaWeek is examining whether 2009 will show a sharp decline in visitors to those sites. “You will probably see some drop-off in the category, but it should stay at a much higher level,” MSNBC.com President Charlie Tillinghast tells MediaWeek. Publishers expect many first-time visitors this year will most likely stay. “I’m not all that concerned about post-election. People that are coming in and finding us are staying,” said Jeremy Steinberg, VP of digital sales and business development at FoxNews.com.
