Advertising company WPP Group has been approved to take over market research firm Taylor Nelson Sofres for f 1.1 billion British pounds, the Wall Street Journal reports. WPP CEO Martin Sorrell hopes the move will allow the company to break away from its reliance on advertising during a volatile market environment. Those market conditions scared off other bidders and made it tougher for Taylor Nelson to push WPP to raise its bid, the newspaper says.
