HBO has given the greenlight for production of the fantasy drama pilot “Game of Thrones,” based on George R.R. Martin’s book series, Daily Variety reports. Although the network first acquired the rights to the project almost two years ago, it will now go ahead with production with writers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. Former HBO president of entertainment Carolyn Strauss will be co-executive producer on the project with Vincent Gerardis, Guymon Cassidy and Martin, the trade paper says.
