Google has approached major cable operators and telcos to create a fast lane for its Web site by putting its own servers inside the networks of Internet service providers, the Wall Street Journal reports. The move would be contrary to net neutrality, a position Google has successfully lobbied for and is currently Federal Communications Commission policy. “If we did this, Washington would be on fire,” one executive at a cable company told the paper, referring to the likely reaction of regulators and lawmakers.
