With only one in four people between 18 and 29 saying cable or satellite TV is a necessity and with more options available for watching TV in nontraditional ways, the $60-a-month subscription is easy to give up, Kiplinger’s Personal Finance Magazine reports. One choice is to spend $50 on a digital converter box to receive the basic TV channels—a cost that can be reduced through a government coupon—while a second option is to watch shows on Web sites such as Hulu, the magazine says.
