“Return to Tarawa: The Leon Cooper Story,” a documentary debuting Friday on the Military Channel, chronicles a 89-year-old’s dream of erecting a monument and cleaning up a World War II battle site where 1,113 marines perished, the Hollywood Reporter says. The project, from Steven C. Barber, is the result of running into Cooper at the Los Angeles Book Fair two years ago and realizing they had a common friend, actor Eddie Albert, who fought with Cooper at Tawara, the trade paper says.
