A new report by Park Associates says set-top box shipments will reach 200 million by 2013, according to Multichannel News.
One trend the company see are that set-top boxes are incresingly being hooked up to the Internet, allowing Internet programming to be seen on TVs.
Furthermore, according to Multichannel, "A separate Parks survey found that about one-third of U.S. broadband households are currently ‘very interested’ in a set-top box that is connected to the internet, though less than 10% were willing to pay a monthly fee for the service. Parks expects that by 2013 ‘virtually 100% of set-top boxes’ shipping in North America will be boxes that can be connected to the Internet."
