Five Major Media Companies—Four of Whom Have Major TV Businesses—Join Together to Boost Their Print Divisions With New Web Application

Dec 9, 2009  •  Post A Comment

Five major media companies have formed a joint venture to sell print publications through a single online store.

Hearst, Meredith, News Corp. and TIme Warner–through it’s Time Inc. division–have joined with Conde Nast to form a still-to-be-named online storefront, the Los Angeles Times reports.

According to the report, "The five publishers envision a Web store that would sell full-color, interactive digital versions of their newspapers and magazines that would be readable on next-generation touch-screen reading devices, said John Squires, the group’s interim managing director. He estimated that the store would open for business late next year, but that applications for smart phones, such as Apple Inc.’s iPhone, could be available sooner."
