A bill that would protect reporters’ confidential sources in federal court is headed to the full Senate after being approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee, the Associated Press reports.

The bill had been held up in committee for several months. It differs from a previously approved version in the House, so even if the current bill is approved by the Senate, a federal shield is unlikely to take effect this year.
