Fox News Chief Roger Ailes Made $23 Million Last Year

Jan 11, 2010  •  Post A Comment

Roger Ailes was paid $23 million last year in salary, bonuses and other compensation for his success in turning Fox News into a News Corp. “profit engine,” The New York Times reports.

The paper said the unit is expected to bring in $700 million in operating profit this year, and is believed to make more money than its two cable rivals, CNN and MSNBC, and the ABC, CBS and NBC evening newscasts combined.

While Ailes is well-compensated by News Corp., Matthew Freud, a top London p.r. executive who is married to News Corp. head Rupert Murdoch’s daughter Elisabeth, told the paper that, “I am by no means alone within the family or the company in being ashamed and sickened by Roger Ailes’s horrendous and sustained disregard of the journalistic standards that News Corporation, its founder and every other global media business aspires to.”

  1. I love the way this report quotes a family member as if they are being at all impartial.
As far as $23 million, that’s only slightly more than what Charlie Sheen got paid last year.

  2. Roger Ailes has singlehandedly done more damage to journalism than any twenty others…Sure Roger will turn a profit for you in the media business, but this is supposed to be J O U R N A L I S M !!! The title of the division is FOX NEWS.
He was dangerous in 1968 getting complete control over the Nixon Campaign…he got the SOB elected, (and we all know what a great deal that was for America).
If he were running an entertainment division, I’d be happy as a clam and would invest in the company, but, dam it, this is N E W S !!! Pardon me, it is supposed to be NEWS, you know, unbiased, impartial…HONEST.
If the old man, could, for once, make a decision separated from his ego and his profits pocket, then he’d fire Ailes yesterday, for FOX News is anything but news…it’s contrived, biased and mis-leading.

  3. That’s funny, Glenn Beck has a phone on his program so they can call at any time to dispute what he is uncovering, nothing but silence.
Gee…!! I wonder why? You will find everything out in November.

  4. A post script to my entry above…I had heard rumors that there was a deal pending between FOX and Sarah Palin…I just read a confirming note of that…I rest my case…Ailes has no business heading a “news” organization…so, let’s re-name it…FOX-SLANTED-sort-of-NEWS.

  5. Have you ever considered adding more videos to your blog posts to keep the readers more entertained? I mean I just read through the entire article of yours and it was quite good but since I am more of a visual learner,I found that to be more helpful well let me know how it turns out.
