The captain of the crab fishing boat the “Cornelia Marie,” whose exploits have been chronicled on Discovery Channel’s “Deadliest Catch” for five seasons, had surgery over the weekend in Alaska after suffering a stroke Friday, EW.com reports.

Phil Harris’ sons, Josh and Jake, issued a statement thanking fans for their thoughts and prayers, and said their father was resting comfortably. A family friend will take over the boat for the rest of the crab fishing season in the Bering Sea.

  1. After following “Dealiest Catch” for the past 5 seasons and being a fellow Harley rider, Phill Harris and sons aboard the Cornelia Marie quickly became personal favorites. I was deeply saddened to hear of the Captains failing health and will continue to send him and his family positive, curitive energy. I wish them the best and hope to hear of his complete recovery. Ride Hard with the rubber down. Get well soon!
