Murdoch Confirms New York Edition of Wall Street Journal

News Corp. Chairman-CEO Rupert Murdoch confirmed today that The Wall Street Journal will launch a New York edition in April, Advertising Age reports.

The new edition will compete directly with The New York Times for high-end New York metro advertisers, and Bloomingdale’s and Bergdorf Goodman stores are already prospects, Ad Age says.

"We’re adding a whole new section and taking on reporters and editors," Murdoch said in remarks before the Real Estate Board of New York today. "We believe that, in its pursuit of journalism prizes and a national reputation, a certain other New York daily has essentially stopped covering the city the way it once did. In so doing, they have mistakenly overlooked the most fascinating city in the world — and left the interests and concerns of people like you far behind them. I promise you this: The Wall Street Journal will not make that mistake."

Other newspapers that the Journal’s New York edition will be competing with include Murdoch’s New York Post, the New York Daily News and the New York Observer.

  1. Oh Goodie,
Another fair and ballanced publication from Rupert.

  2. Maybe Rupe can hire some of the staff of the now-departed New York Sun. That was an excellent paper. It’s closing has left a whole in my day.

  3. I love the way you write and also the theme on your blog. Did you code this yourself or was it done by a professional? I’m very very impressed.

  4. Interesting thoughts here. I appreciate you taking the time to share them with us all. It’s people like you that make my day 🙂
