Google will introduce Android-based mobile television software at a May event, the Wall Street Journal reports.

The technology will be shown to more than 3,000 developers at a Google-sponsored conference in San Francisco on May 19 and 20, although the company may decide to delay talking about it until the project is more mature.

Still, the decision to talk to developers about the technology may indicate that Google wants to spur a race to build applications for its TV platform, similar to the way developers have jumped into developing applications for smartphones.

The technology is designed to place more content on Internet-connected devices and is attracting interest from partners ranging from Sony Corp. to Intel Corp.
