History’s "America The Story of Us" became the highest-rated and most-watched special ever for the network, B&C reports. 

The first night of the special was watched by 5.7 million total viewers, including 2.6 million in the 18- to 49-year-old demographic and 2.7 million among people between 25 to 54 on Sunday. The show also drew a 4.0 household rating in its 9-11 p.m. timeslot.

The show began with a special introduction by President Barack Obama.
