TNT Renews ex-NBC Cop Show ‘Southland’ for a Third Season

TNT has renewed the police drama "Southland" for a third season, giving another year of life to the show that NBC had canceled last year, the Los Angeles Times‘ Show Tracker blog reports. ≈

TNT has bought 10 new episodes from executive producer John Wells and Warner Bros., adding to the first season rights and the six season-two episodes it bought last year.

The renewal wasn’t entirely expected given that the ratings for "Southland" are smaller than other TNT originals, with the show’s six original episodes drawing about 2.7 million viewers on average compared with about 8 million for "The Closer." The third season will start airing in January.

  1. This is good news. Hopefully they will partner it with a strong program like The Closer that will give it a good chance. A well written drama tackling some tough issues in an interesting way.

  2. A friend gave me a url to your blog. It’s really cool, I will be back without a doubt.
