Campbell Brown to Leave CNN, After Network Grants Request to End Contract Early

Campbell Brown will be leaving CNN after the anchor asked to be released from her contract early, reports Mediaite

Brown asked to be released after she lobbied to get her show pushed back by an hour to 7 p.m., when she wouldn’t be competing against Bill O’Reilly and Keith Olbermann. But her plan was denied and the hour went to John King.

While her ratings have been better than the Paula Zahn-anchored show that previously held the slot, it’s still struggled against her cable-news competition. Her ratings dropped further after John King started his show leading in to her program.

For the year-to-date, her viewership has plunged 38% compared with the same period a year earlier, reports the Los Angeles Times’ Show Tracker blog.

In a refreshingly candid statement, Brown wrote, "The simple fact is that not enough people want to watch my program, and I owe it to myself and to CNN to get out of the way so that CNN can try something else."

  1. Yes, Campbell, it’s rough out there. Next time, you might wish to make a name for yourself for a cause that draws a hard core following. You might consider issues like freedom of choice or the seige of Gaza — which gets emotions stirred up on both sides. Keith Warn

  2. What a shame!! Guess NBC knew exactly which network to peddle her to.

  3. Love all the opinions expressed here! How is everyone? Love how everyone expresses whatr they feel 🙂
