Dave McElhatton, who served as a broadcaster in the San Francisco Bay Area for 50 years–including a long stint as the chief news anchor on KPIX–has died.

TVWeek Open Mic blogger Chuck Ross, who covered Mac when Ross worked at the San Francisco Chronicle, writes a moving tribute, which you can read if you click here.

  1. Well I can’t resist mentioning I was working at KCBS when Dave was working in the mailroom on his first radio job in the early 50s. It was after I left there that he got the “Music Til Dawn” announcing job, and, of course, that led to all the other assignments that followed. In about 1963 I went back to KCBS for month to try to replace him when he went on vacation from his morning show. I think it was shortly after that that he started on TV and never looked back. Well here I still am, at 90; and looking back at the golden age of radio with regret that it’s gone.

  2. Great wordpress blog here.. It’s hard to find quality writing like yours these days. I really appreciate people like you! take care and see you soon
