An action project from Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert that’s based on a Japanese anime television series has been picked up by Starz, reports The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed blog.

The project, called "Noir," is a live-action remake of a 2001 animated show about two female assassins who work in a criminal underworld, the article says. The two discover they’re linked and have to work together until they figure out how they’re connected, or until one of them kills the other, the article notes.

Raimi and Tapert will executive produce and Stephen Lightfoot of "Criminal Justice" will write and executive produce.
