FX Working on First-Ever TV Series About an Illegal Immigrant Character; Creator Defends Show’s Approach

FX is working on a series project that would mark the first television show to focus on an illegal immigrant character, reports Deadline.com’s Nellie Andreeva.

The project from "Changing Lanes" writer Chap Taylor focuses on an illegal Mexican immigrant working as a private investigator and is described as ‘Traffic" meets "Chinatown," the story says. The project has tapped Rodrigo Garcia, who was born in Colombia and who is the son of writer Gabriel Garcia Marquez, to direct and executive produce.

But Taylor responded to comments posted after the story was picked up by the Drudge Report, Andreeva writes. He defended the project, noting that "We absolutely do not intend to whitewash anyone. It will not be a show about beastly white folks or saintly immigrants. Like any good drama, we hope to make a show about people in extreme circumstances who have to make decisions – some good, some bad, and some really ugly."

Yeah, maybe, but I guarantee you that episodes with that attitude will vastly outnumber the ones about “beastly immigrants and saintly white folks”
